James “Jim” R. Nuss, 80, of Tripoli, died Friday, March 10, 2017, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City from complications of a stroke.
Funeral services will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Tripoli on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Scott Duffus officiating. Interment will be held Tuesday, 2:00 p.m. at Hawkeye Cemetery in Hawkeye. Visitation will be held Monday, March 13th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Rettig Funeral Home in Tripoli and for one hour preceding the services at the church on Tuesday.
James Robert, son of John and Lorraine (Cline) Nuss was born December 24, 1936, at home in rural Hawkeye. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye. Jim received his education in the Hawkeye Schools graduating from Hawkeye High School in 1954. On January 29, 1955, he was united in marriage with Joyce Weidemann at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye and from this union two children were born, Terri and Mark. Jim worked for Rath Packing Company in Waterloo, Rettig Furniture and Funeral Home in Tripoli, Sara Lee in New Hampton, and Rockwell-Collins in Sumner, where he retired. He was a long time member of Grace Lutheran Church in Tripoli, and Maple Hills Country Club in Tripoli. Jim enjoyed golfing, bowling, but most especially enjoyed following the many activities of his grandchildren. In the Summer of 2016, he participated in the Iowa Games and won the Gold Medal in Bowling.
In addition to his wife, Joyce, Jim is survived by his two children, Terri (Mark) Moeller of Tripoli, and Mark (Teresa) Nuss of West Union; four grandchildren, Lisa (Brook) Maher of Waverly, Michael (Anne) Moeller of Grimes, Trey (Allie) Nuss of Dike, and Reid Nuss of West Union (Kenzie Digman); six great-grandchildren, Jameson Maher, Jack and Ben Moeller, and Charlie, Coleman and Kerrigan Nuss; two sisters, Jane Voelker of Ferryville, Wisconsin and Betty Koenig of Elwood, Nebraska; one brother, Gene (Jane) Nuss of Hawkeye; and one brother-in-law, Robert (Joan) Weidemann of Hawkeye.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, JoAnn Rudlong.
